History and Description

Established in 1929, Mount Lebanon Cemetery spans 65 acres in Iselin, NJ. Owned by Everstory Partners, LP, it is divided by Gill Lane into distinct sections.

The cemetery features a majestic menorah on one side and a marble Bible feature on the other, reflecting its diverse burial offerings. It includes Mount Lebanon, New Mount Lebanon, and Mount Lebanon Part 2, all part of the same complex, offering in-ground burials and aboveground mausoleums.

Religious Affiliations

The cemetery has strong ties to Jewish traditions, with sections dedicated to Jewish burial practices. However, no specific synagogues are directly affiliated.

Section Characteristics

The Mount Lebanon section, the original core of the cemetery, is characterized by its traditional Jewish burial design. Upright granite headstones dominate, often featuring classic Jewish symbols such as the Star of David, menorahs, or Hebrew inscriptions.

New Mount Lebanon, an extension of the original section, maintains a similar Jewish focus but incorporates more modern design elements. The headstones here are also primarily upright granite. Still, they often feature contemporary styles, such as sleek, minimalist shapes or laser-etched designs.

Mount Lebanon Part 2, another expansion, mirrors the Jewish focus of the other sections but introduces greater variety in monument design. This section includes upright granite stones and flush bronze markers, offering flexibility for families.

Rules for Monuments

Mount Lebanon Cemetery has specific guidelines for memorials. It includes bronze and upright stone sections, so plot location determines the memorial type and size. All colors and etchings are permitted, but photos are prohibited. Only the deceased can be named on the stone; pre-need stones are forbidden.

These rules ensure consistency and respect for the cemetery’s aesthetic and cultural standards.
